The Parish Council have been in dialogue with Anglian Water since the yellow signs appeared two weeks ago. Here is their latest update, received today. This will also be sent to all who have contacted them directly

An update on our planned water pipe replacement work - 16 October 2026 (ref 6521873)

We’ve postponed our work to replace the water pipes in your area, which was due to start on 19 October. This means the planned road closure will not go ahead at this time.

We will, however, carry out some initial investigations under temporary traffic lights later this month.

We’ve listened to concerns from residents and the parish council. We recognise that we didn’t give you enough notice or fully explain how the work would affect your journeys and local services. We’re sorry we haven’t got this right.

Why are we postponing the work?

We need more time to work with the Parish Council, bus operators and other local stakeholders to understand and address the concerns raised. This includes exploring arrangements to keep bus services running wherever possible while the road is closed.

Replacing these pipes remains important to help reduce leaks and bursts and protect local water supplies. We’ll start these discussions as soon as possible so we can move forward with a clearer plan and give you more time to prepare.

What work will you see this month?

From Friday 23 October to Tuesday 27 October, we’ll dig trial holes on Rose Hill (B1077), with temporary traffic lights in place.

These small excavations will help us understand the ground conditions and locate existing pipes and cables beneath the road. Doing this now will help us plan the main work more accurately and reduce the risk of unexpected problems once it starts.(

Why can we use traffic lights for trial holes but not the main work?

Trial holes are small, individual excavations that use much smaller equipment than the main pipe replacement work. This leaves enough room for vehicles to pass safely under temporary traffic lights.

The main work needs a longer trench and more space for equipment, materials and a large drilling rig. There won’t be enough room to keep traffic moving safely alongside it, so a road closure will still be needed.

What happens next?

We’re now looking to start the main work around the middle of next year, although this will depend on agreeing the arrangements needed.

We’ll share the revised plans and confirmed dates well ahead of work starting, including what they mean for road access and bus services. There will also be opportunities to speak with our team, ask questions and raise any concerns.

In the meantime, if you’ve got any questions, please email MLcustomers@anglianwater.co.uk or call 03457 145 145. Don’t forget to mention our reference number which is  65218723
